"A mountain mile can lose you or find you,
can tire you or invigorate you,
can hurt you or can cure you, but most of all,
a mountain mile is rarely just a mile.
This site is dedicated to giving honest, budget friendly reviews based upon my own experiences & research, and information on gear for folks new to the sport or looking for guidance. It also serves as my own passion project and my recording of my hikes, trips & opinions. I hope it helps someone, and when I remember trying to "figure out" my gear, routes, places, etc., much of this stuff was my internet hobby!

I am lucky enough to live in a hikers mecca - Marin County. Thousands of acres and trails that interlock throughout the county, facilitate everything from easy waterfall day-hikes, walks on ocean bluffs, to strenuous multi-day hikes. I am also lucky to live a 1/2 mile from a trailhead that gives me 2-7 mile hikes at a moments notice.
I have always loved hiking and walking but became more serious about it when I moved to Marin. What were previously weekend hikes and a couple of overnight trips annually, became almost daily hiking, frequent overnight backpacking trips, and a constant desire to test myself at elevation in the Sierra's.

With this new found passion, came the realization that much of my gear needed upgrading, and it was almost as if I was starting from scratch. Everything had improved, price differences varied greatly and required research and the simple act of taking to the woods seemed to have (d)evolved into a world of ultralight, brands and expense.

Today, I walk about 1,000 miles a year, and gain about 100,000 feet in elevation, and my "kit" is constantly a work in progress!
