Gear review 3: North Face Storm Break 1

Updated: Aug 10, 2022

Price: $149.00 Rating: 7/10

MM's Bottom Line: A little too snug for the weight.

This tent is a one person tent, and barely at that! I was looking for something sub 3lbs and purchased this. It has endured altitude, rain, snow, beating sun, and it is still going strong after 2 years. I swapped out the pegs which were absolutely useless, and use a sheet of Tyvek as a groundsheet. It is extremely easy to set up, reasonably light, durable and functional. Inside is minimal - there is a pocket for belongings and a hook to hang a light from. The vestibule is very small with barely enough space for my 55l backpack and shoes.

Pro's: Quite light, minimal, durable, free standing.

Con's: Terrible pegs, no space to move around, small vestibule.

This tent is not fun to shelter from rain storms for extended periods of time, given the limited amount of space to move around while sheltering, but it will keep you dry and toasty.

Verdict: I will keep this for dry single overnighters, and opt for a lightweight 2 person tent for longer trips
