A budget friendly head lamp that meets most needs - here for $19.99.
My Take
Let's face it, for most of us we just need a light to potter around camp, to cook, to read in our tents, to see where we are going in the middle of night. If you foresee these being roughly your needs, then this product will meet all of them. If you need a light for actual activities at night you may want to look elsewhere, with some lights costing in excess of $100.00.
The Petzl Tikkina provides 250 lumens with a flood beam that is designed specifically for proximity viewing (versus distance viewing). So, in other words it is designed specifically for activities mentioned above, versus, for example trail running or hiking in the dark, although it does have a distance beam setting and I have used it in the dark, and while it was "fine", it was not great, and I imagine if I were trail-running, I would need something stronger.
There are 3 settings, proximity, movement and distance, which are cycled through a one-push click of the button for each setting. The light itself is adjustable upwards and downwards. It operates with 3 AAA batteries and boasts 2 hours continuous use on high, 9 hours on medium, and 120 hours on low - low being adequate to read in your tent. It's clamed beam distance is 60 meters on high, 40 on medium and 10 on high.
It weighs 3 ounces with batteries installed. It also sports a detachable and washable headband.
